What Are Ants?
Ants are insects that belong to the family Formicidae in the order Hymenoptera. There are over 12,000 known species of ants, which are found in almost every part of the world. Ants are social insects, meaning they live in colonies or nests with a highly organized structure. Each colony is made up of three castes: queens, workers, and males. The queen ant is responsible for reproduction, while the worker ants are responsible for foraging for food, caring for the young, and maintaining the nest. Male ants, also known as drones, are responsible for mating with the queen. Ants are known for their strong work ethic and their ability to lift and carry objects that are much larger than their own body size.
