Fleas: What are they?

Fleas are small, wingless insects that feed on the blood of mammals and birds. They are ectoparasites, which means they live on the outside of their host’s body. Fleas are known for their ability to jump long distances and are often found on pets, such as dogs and cats, as well as on wild animals. Fleas can cause irritation and discomfort to their hosts, and in some cases, they can transmit diseases.
